A name at the top is only part of the picture.
Opening a following list gives you the accounts that are visible now. Its displayed order alone cannot establish when someone followed each account. A new name becomes much more useful when you can compare it with an earlier record.
Recently Followed saves completed public lists and compares Instagram user IDs. If the username changes, that account still remains the same connection.
From a username to a connection record.
Search the exact public handle. Check the profile photo and display name to make sure you have the right account. Add it to Watch and let the first completed collection become your baseline.
- Review current connections from the search result.
- Save a public profile to Watch.
- Return to the activity record for newly detected follows and unfollows.
- Turn on email alerts to hear when a completed comparison reveals activity.
Read the details before drawing a conclusion.
Check the source account, the direction of the change, and the two check times. A follow shows a connection; it does not reveal why that connection was made. Your private record gives you details to consider, not a judgment about a relationship.
When results are incomplete.
A private account, a restricted list, or a temporary Instagram interruption can prevent a complete check. In that case we keep the previous baseline and wait for a completed collection. Missing data does not become an unfollow notification.
Questions, answered.
Can I check a private Instagram account?
No. Recently Followed checks publicly available lists. It does not bypass private profiles or request access on your behalf.
Can I see the exact date a follow happened?
Instagram does not publish exact follow dates for other accounts. We show when a change was first detected and the interval between completed checks.
